ABRN JogDog Program Launched

for ABRN Rescue-Affiliated Groups

Successful pet adoptions involve matching the right dog with the right person/family, and making certain that the dog’s environment fits the needs of the breed and the particular dog.  For example, all dogs need regular exercise, but some need more in order to be optimally happy and well adjusted. Some dogs require more mental stimulation than others.  Dog Whisperer/trainer Cesar Milan stresses 3 features of well-adjusted, well-behaved dogs: exercise, discipline, and affection.  When there is a mismatch between the lifestyle of owners and dogs, or a lack of knowledge on the part of owners regarding the needs of their breed of dog, unhappy outcomes can result all around.  The goal of the ABRN JogDog Program is to promote happy, long-term placements for dogs by:

Matching high energy adoptable dogs with active and athletic owners

Sharing information about the needs and characteristics of various breeds

Providing training referrals and suggestions for a variety of behavior problems

Proposing novel opportunities for mutual pet-owner exercise and stimulation (such as fly-ball, agility, therapy-dog training, etc.)

ABRN members and affiliate members with dogs that match the parameters of this program can submit their foster dogs with higher activity needs for promotion through this program.  The program will likely be featured in regional sports publications and will also receive special attention through the ABRN website and local adoption events.
